Smoking cessation

Mark Twain said, “Quitting smoking is easy. I’ve done it a thousand times.”

You may have already tried different ways to stop smoking, perhaps using pure willpower or over the counter substitutes like nicotine gum and patches.

These are all great ways to stop smoking for some people but if you have tried them and started again then you will have realized there is usually more to it than willpower or gradually weaning yourself off the nicotine.

More often than not people have found themselves drifting back into the habit of smoking, feeling disappointed and completely at a loss to why this happens because your head tells you that you really want to be a non-smoker but there are specific times where your actions appear to betray you.

So why is quitting and staying that way so hard for so many people?  The answer is mainly nicotine.  We all know smoking tobacco is both a physical addiction and a psychological habit.

Did you know that the nicotine from cigarettes actually hijacks your natural and normal reward system and persuades your brain into believing that it just needs to have that next cigarette, one more cigarette?  Thus creating a vicious cycle of a temporary and addictive high.  It’s called the ‘nicotine trick’ and you may be relieved to know that it’s not your fault, it’s been tricking you. Because nicotine has a “feel good” effect on the brain, you may also have become accustomed to smoking as a way of coping with anxiety, stress, depression or even boredom.

There are many reasons to stop smoking, most people quit for health reasons. The following are only the short time effects, with much more improvement happening in your body and mind as you continue on this healthier route. The benefits of stopping smoking continue to grow as times passes.

The good news is that after only :
20 minutes without a cigarette, your blood pressure and pulse return to normal
24 hours monoxide leaves your body and  your lungs start to clear out tar
48 hours  no nicotine is left in your body. Your senses of taste and smell improve
72 hours  your energy levels increase and breathing becomes easier
3 months your blood circulation improves, physical activities get much easier

Stop Smoking Hypnosis

The Stop Smoking Hypnosis programme I offer is a highly effective way to stop smoking.

I use Cognitive Hypnotherapy, which combines Hypnosis, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and NLP, as well as the SIMMON’S METHOD.  This a science-based program, therefore going beyond conventional stop smoking hypnosis.

Cognitive Hypnotherapy is a bespoke treatment, I don’t just read a stop smoking script.  I prefer to work with you over two sessions usually a week apart, each session between 60 and 75 minutes.

This involves working  with you on all different aspects of smoking in order to further increase your chances of success. Sessions incorporate the below and more.

  • Get to know you, why you smoke, your motivation and  your beliefs about cigarettes
  • Dealing with any underlying emotional reasons for smoking such as anxiety and unconscious beliefs
  • Re-training the unconscious part of your mind to modify your thinking and behaviour about stopping smoking
  • Breaking the habitual links to particular high risk times ie. events or when you are offered a cigarette
  • Helping you overcome worries about mood swings or cravings as you stop smoking
  • Enabling you  to manage stress in a healthier way
  • Understanding and breaking physical cravings
  • Harnessing your own motivation, determination and willpower
  • Teaching you effective self-help tools to help you stay smoke free

Usually, 2 sessions are all that is needed.  However occasionally where there are more complex emotional issues related to your smoking I may recommend that we resolve these first and hence further sessions might be suggested. My aim is for you to stop smoking and remain a non-smoker forever.
